As this year’s babies grow, we’re already thinking about next summer. We’re finishing up our breeding season and were especially excited to breed two males that we brought into the herd this year. One is a black-fleeced male carrying gray genetics, and we’re hopeful that some of his offspring might give us more beautiful gray-fleeced crias next year.

Our other new male has spotted patterning, so we’re especially curious to see what kinds of markings he may produce. We could potentially see Appaloosa-style spotting or other interesting patterns among next year’s babies. Of course, genetics always come with surprises, and that’s part of the fun. Our unusually colored and patterned alpacas are always popular with visitors, so we’re excited to see what next year brings.
