Warm days can bring out a little extra pep on the ranch. You might catch a quick trot, a playful hop, or the classic “I’m fast for no reason” moment—usually followed by a dramatic pause like they’re waiting to see if anyone noticed.
Those little bursts of energy are a good sign: the herd feels comfortable, curious, and settled. But it doesn’t mean we’re suddenly in full spring mode. Even with sunshine in the forecast, we keep routines steady—hay first, plenty of fresh water, and slow, thoughtful pasture time while the ground firms up and the grass actually wakes up.
And after the sprint? It’s right back to business: munching hay and doing that serious pasture scan for the first green shoots… like the field might reveal a secret salad bar at any moment.
