As spring approaches, the increasing daylight has a noticeable effect on the herd. Alpacas are sensitive to seasonal light changes, and those longer afternoons often bring a little extra energy to the pasture.

More daylight means more grazing time, more wandering, and occasionally a sudden burst of speed across the field for no apparent reason. If you’ve ever seen an alpaca suddenly dash off and then calmly return to chewing hay, you’ve witnessed what ranchers sometimes call a “spring zoomie.”
These small bursts of activity are perfectly normal and often signal that the herd is enjoying the changing season just as much as we are.
