Our baby alpacas have changed quite a bit over the summer. Those first tentative days of staying right beside Mom gradually give way to more independence, curiosity, and plenty of play. Now the crias are spending more time together—running through the pasture, chasing one another, and forming their own little social group within the larger herd.
Play is fun to watch, but it’s also part of growing up. The babies are learning how to interact with other alpacas and where they fit within the herd, while still returning to their mothers for reassurance and milk. For visitors on our ranch tours, watching a group of crias suddenly take off running together is often one of the highlights of the visit—and it’s still one of our favorite things to see too.
