The Great Pasture Scan

The Great Pasture Scan

You know that look alpacas get when they’re staring across the field? That’s not daydreaming. That’s a full pasture scan— a slow, thoughtful search for the first tiny shoots of spring.

This winter basically forgot to show up, so the alpacas have been getting “early spring energy” since mid-February. They’ll bask in the sun, munch hay, and then do a little patrol like the pasture might suddenly reveal secrets.

Fun foot fact: alpaca feet have two toes with a soft pad underneath, kind of like built-in hiking boots.Alpacas have two toes on each foot, and instead of hard hooves they walk on a soft, leathery pad that spreads their weight out. That cushioned pad gives them great traction and helps them move quietly while being gentler on pastures than many hoofed livestock—basically nature’s built-in hiking boots.
